Skilled Workers And Professionals (FSWP & FSTP)

Below is what is applicable from 1st May 2014. Skilled workers have education, work experience, knowledge of English or French, and other abilities that will help them to establish themselves successfully as permanent residents in Canada.

Note: You must meet the following minimum requirements to apply as a skilled worker:

1. You have at least one continuous year of full-time, paid work experience or the equivalent in part-time continuous employment in one of the following categories: listed here (50 Occupation List/ 50 Occupation list or Demand list which is realesed from 1st May 2014) in past 10 years.

2. Your work experience must be Skill Type 0 (managerial occupations) or Skill Level A (professional occupations) or B (technical occupations and skilled trades) on the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC).

Who can apply

Federal skilled worker applications received from 1st May 2014 would be assessed for eligibility according to a set of instructions issued by the Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism.

Your application will be reviewed in three steps.

1. According to the Ministers instructions, your application is eligible for processing if:
  • you have an offer of arranged employment, OR
  • you are a foreign national who has been living legally in Canada for one year as a temporary foreign worker or an international student, OR
  • you are a skilled worker who has at least one year of experience in one or more of the 50 occupations listed here.
2. If your application is eligible for processing, you must also meet the following minimum requirements to qualify as a skilled worker:
  • you have at least one year of continuous full-time paid work experience and IELTS band no less than 6 in each module of General IELTS the equivalent AND
  • your work experience must be Skill Type 0 (managerial occupations) or Skill Level A (professional occupations) or B (technical occupations and skilled trades) on the Canadia National Occupational Classification list, AND
  • you must have had this experience within the last 10 years.

3. If you meet these minimum requirements, your application will then be processed according to the six selection factors in the skilled worker points grid.  The six selection factors are:

You must also show that you have enough money to support yourself and your dependants after you arrive in Canada, and pass a medical examination and security and criminal checks.

67 points

If your score is lower than the pass mark (67 points), you are not likely to qualify to immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker. We recommend that you do not apply at this time. But still you could be eligible under PNP (Provincial/state Nomminee Program) Program.

Principle Applicant

If you or your spouse are qualify than you or your spouse becomes a PRINCIPLE APPLICANT to continue process for your application under skilled worker and professional.

Proof of funds

The Government of Canada does not provide financial support to new skilled worker immigrants.
You must show that you have enough money to support yourself and your dependants after you arrive in Canada. You cannot borrow this money from another person. You must be able to use this money to support the costs of living for your family.
You will need to provide proof of your funds to the Canadian visa office in your home country when you submit your application for immigration.

How to apply

There are two application processes for skilled worker applicants to Canada:

FSWP & FSTP (For Trade Persons)

and

the regular application process.

You must use the regular process if:
- you have been lawfully admitted to Canada for a period of at least one year and you are submitting your application at the Canadian visa office in Buffalo or
- you have been lawfully admitted into the United States for a period of at least one year and you are submitting your application at the Canadian visa office in Buffalo
- you are a provincial nominee
- you have been selected by Quebec
- you are eligible for points for arranged employment.
